What is two factor login authentication?

With your client area login you can enable two factor authentication, this is highly recommended.

So what is two factor authentication?

Two factor authentication adds an additional layer of security to your client area login by introducing a second step to your login.

It takes something you know (i.e. your password) and adds a second factor into your login using something you physically have (such as your phone).

Since both are required to log in with two factor authentication enabled in the event an attacker obtains your password two-factor authentication would stop them accessing your account.

Why do you need it?

Passwords are increasingly easy to compromise, They can often be guessed or leaked, they are not changed very often and many of us have favourite passwords that we use for more than one thing.

So enabling two-factor authentication gives you additional security because your password alone would no longer allow access to your account.

How does it work?

Two factor authentication works by using time based one time passwords, this requires downloading an OATH application onto your tablet or smartphone.

The OATH applications are free and if you search for "Google Authenticator" in the relevant app store for iOS (Apple), Android and Windows you will find it there.

Once you have installed the app you need to follow a simple process to enable two-factor authentication.

When this is done your client account will then be protected by two factor authentication.
