What is FTP?

FTP is an acronym which stand for File Transfer Protocol. FTP is used to transfer files between your computer and the server allowing you to upload and download files as necessary without the need to login to cPanel to do so.

FTP are often used to provide secure connections to server resources for third parties and can be set up in such a way that they have access to only a specific area of your servers file system. In addition it is possible to limit the amount of data that a single account can transfer through the use of quotas.

Many graphical based FTP clients are available which allows you to transfer files between your system and the servers through a simple drag and drop interface, some of these include; FileZilla, CoreFTP and CuteFTP for Windows, and Cyberduck for MAC.
